Reality TV Shows
There are so many reality shows now and some are crazy. There is one in particularly that I feel is a bit crazy to me, the new show called “The Legend of Mick Dodge”. It is supposedly on its second season; it is relatively new to me. There is a camera guy that follows this guy who lives in the wilderness and eats what the wilderness provides. This guy must have lived of the land for so long, that he talks to the moss growing on the trees and calls it Gnome’s. National Geographic must find this guy really interesting. I don’t really like watching the show, but every now and then, my husband turns it to the National Geographic channel. My husband is a channel changer and he really loves the educational channels and I find some of them to be enlightening as well.
As my husband turns the channels, I end up viewing some of the reality show with him and some of them actually make me laugh. Some of the shows make me wonder if people really are like that in this world, you know weird or crazy. I get that there are real drama’s that happen in the real world, but I didn’t realize that, many viewers are that interested in those drama or there are those who doesn’t mind having their life and business for everyone to see.
Have we as viewers become that bored with our lives that we turn our attention to others, or is it because that we prefer to see others go through it, so that we feel that our own life does not look as bad a we think.
Then there are some shows I like, because I feel it has humor and some educational qualities as well. For example I do like to watch “American Pickers”, because I find them entertaining and funny and what ever they find, they explain the history that goes with the item they buy. Then there is this one show that I watch every now and then, where these people hunt for wild mushrooms or ginseng and sell it to chiefs or private companies. These people actually make a lot of money for these, but they do have to work at finding them in the wilderness. When I watch this particular program, I often think about the mushrooms on my dinner plate when I go out.
This kind of educational show is actually great for people to watch, because they provide history or educational information that we normally do not think about in our normal day to day life. Also some of them can be quite entertaining as they provide us with knowledge of information. Sometime I feel I show my age when I actually turn it to the History channel or National Geographic channel and begin to relax and enjoy the program. I guess it is a bit of a guilty pleasure, because I enjoy watching the show. Although I still enjoy my sitcoms and other fictional shows. As much as I enjoy having my brain gain knowledge, I do need a break from to much input.

I like what you said about the show makes you think about the food on your plate. That is a positive about educational shows, most other shows give a negative description of the candidates on the show.

ReplyDeleteIt is really nice to watch educational shows because you can learn something from it. Same with you I also think about those people from reality shows are crazy or weird but it is funny though.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that you asked the question of whether or not our society has become so bored with their own lives that they allow their attention to drift to the lives of those in reality TV shows. Although there are some pretty entertaining shows to choose from, I still don't truly agree with the way society has chosen to distract themselves when they can be searching for alternative methods of enlightening themselves or enhancing their lives.
ReplyDeleteAlthough those educational channels are great, there are some shows that are just ridiculous and a waste of time to watch like that one show dedicated to find monsters or mythical creatures; they never find anything. What show is that where people hunt for wild mushrooms? That sounds very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the time spent watching the shows aired on scientific channels can be enlightening, but I am also aware that they can be complete brainwash material. It is dumbfounding the material that captivates an indulges the audience nation-wide.
ReplyDeleteI always thought that was weird. How a camera would always follow someone. People's lives are dramatic here and there, but I too am curious if lives out there in the shows are real sometimes.
ReplyDeleteInformative shows can be good but some may not, it depends on how we all determine it. National Geographic and the discovery channel are a great place to learn new things.
ReplyDeleteI don't normally watch television, but when I do it's always the Food Network or Discovery Channel. Television definitely has it's learning limits and I feel as though they should have more variety on the informational shows.
